FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- How do I book the road test? You can book your road test yourself in-person through any Autopac outlet, or MPI service centre. You can also book your test online through the MPI website.
- I want to take my car to the road test, but I still want you to come with me. That's OK? No. All driver training AND the road test drive must be done in the TRAINING VEHICLE if you want me to accompany you. It is against all HTA regulations to conduct certified driver training in a non-certified vehicle.
- How many driving lessons will I need? That's entirely based on 1) have you driven before? 2) are you able to drive/practice your skills in-between lessons? Those who are able to drive with a parent or partner a couple of times a week are obviously going to need less training and fewer lessons than someone who doesn't drive outside of the training lessons. Consistent practice and time behind the wheel means you will get to where you want to be much faster. A student starting right from scratch is not going to be a complete and confident driver with 6 or 7 hours of road time. It can't happen. It takes a lot more work than that to be a confident, capable, and skilled driver. It takes TIME BEHIND THE WHEEL.
*Before deciding on long-term lessons/packages, book a lesson; just one lesson. You should, after that first lesson, have a better understanding on where you are on the scale. And, you'll a have a good idea if the instructor/coach you are working with is a good fit for you. After one lesson, you'll have a much better idea on where you need to get to and how many lessons it will take.
- What's the biggest mistake people make when getting ready for their road test? People fail to ready themselves for the test - they don't drive nearly enough. They don't put in the needed work. I've seen far too many instances of people going for their test and when I ask them if they've been out driving, their answer is, "Not much" or "Not since my last attempt 3 months ago". It's a test. You must "study" in order to attain success. Practice IS study. If you fail to put in the time and effort, your chance at success drops dramatically. There's absolutely no way around this - you have to put in the time behind the wheel, or else you are just throwing your chances of success right out the window. Not to mention consistent practice improves skills, ingrains skills, grows experience, and makes you a FAR safer and precise driver.
- Do you train students one-on-one or are there multiple students in the vehicle? All training is done on a one-to-one basis. I do not stuff multiple clients into the car to save on travel time. A proper driving school would never do that.
